Sure, Rose City Riveters are known for great match day tifo displays, epic away trips North, and of course, all the red smoke!

What you might not know is that when we fundraise, it doesn’t just go to Riveters expenses- it also goes to support our community.

In addition to products cultivated from our match day drives, financial assistance is also provided to organizations. Here is a thumbnail sketch of where fundraising dollars were directed in 2017:

  • Pioneer Courthouse Square – repair $100 (Click here to find our brick!)
  • Lori Lindsey trip to Mt. Killimanjaro – $107 (Click here to read about her adventure, coordinated by Altitude Football Project. Athletes set a Guinness World Record for the world’s highest ever soccer match, to help draw attention to equality issues.)
  • Street Roots for Spread the Love Scarves (joint with Timbers Army) – $1,000
  • The Living Room Pride Scarf (joint with Timbers Army) – $3,330
  • TransActive Pride Shirts & Buttons – $2,539
  • Rock n Roll Camp for Girls BYCAP and End of Year Show – $3,594

Thank you for purchasing our limited run scarves, shirts, and other merch that helps fund great organizations and causes like these!

We made it a double.

We painted tifo, we sang songs, we supported the Thorns.

We went to Orlando, and we brought back the NWSL Championship trophy.

And now we rest. Kind of. For a few minutes. There is always work to be done.

The application period is open for candidates for the 107ist board. The 107ist, for those of you who may just be joining us, is the operational umbrella covering both the Rose City Riveters and the Timbers Army. It’s what allows us to do all the things we do at the scale at which we want to do them.

Applications are open until Friday, November 10, at midnight and can be found HERE. You must have a current, paid 107ist membership to run.

Being a member of the board isn’t easy and it isn’t always fun, but the board is essential and this year, four positions in the 11-member group are open. Newly elected board members will serve a three-year term, from January 2018 through December 2020.

The candidate forum, where candidates will answer questions from their future constituents, will be November 19 at Artists Repertory Theatre beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Whether voter or candidate, consider carefully. You have the ability to shape the organization going forward.

Each year, a special gift is presented to individual teammates of the Portland Thorns by Rose City Riveters. This year’s gift was particularly exceptional.

Player Gift: Coins designed by Riveters Matt and Hannah.

Player Gift: Coins designed by Riveters Matt and Hannah, and created by ADX Portland.

All work was done by the Makers Collective at ADX Portland. The coins’ imagery and wording were designed by Riveters Matt and Hannah, which was laser etched into rosewood rounds from a 25 y/o rose bush native to North Portland. The boxes are Douglas Fir, aged 10 years and seasoned for five.

The box is made from 5 year seasoned Douglas Fir.

The Riveter crest on top is silk screen printed with a gold and gunpowder grey ink finish, and the message inside the lid is one of unity with the players and the club. The top and bottom are held together by magnets, and the rosewood coin rests in a black, felt-lined setting.

Hope you enjoyed this little peek at just one of many small facets of Rose City Riveters support. Thank you to those, named and unnamed, who contributed their time and talent to this worthy project.

Oi Oi 37373081576_73470a05cb_oOi.

Hayley Raso has won the 2017 Rose City Riveters Player of the Year award. Nearly 550 votes were cast this year, and Raso registered 38% of the vote.

During the 2017 regular season, Raso has scored 6 goals and has had 3 assists. While her second year on our squad, this was a breakout season for Raso. Her heart and grit won our hearts over. When her physical play was rewarded with a 1 game suspension, the whole stadium showed their support of her by sporting red bows in their hair, beards, or caps.

The Riveters will always remember the role Raso played at Memorial on August 26th, where she got her first NWSL brace and helped the Thorns earn their first win in that godforsaken stadium.

This year’s award was assembled by our friends at ADX Portland, with a hand37373017096_56cfeeaa2d_omade rose generously donated by a local craftsman.

Past Rose City Riveters Player of the Year Winners:
2016 – Emily Menges
2015 – Michelle Betos
2014 – Vero Boquette
2013 – Karina LeBlanc

NWSL Final – October 14, 2017

Ramer

As we all know, attending an Away Match is tons of fun. And when your team is in the Away Match, even better! We don’t know yet if the Thorns will be in the NWSL Final this year, but our fingers are crossed. Many of us are going anyway & we had a fantastic time in Houston last year, even without the Thorns playing.

In preparation, we have secured match tickets, some housing, and have a few events on the schedule!

MATCH TICKETS:

If you’d like to travel with us, the first thing to do is to get your match tickets ordered! In order to get that taken care of, please go here: https://timbersarmy.org/event-2639430

Please note that tickets into Orlando City Stadium are digital, so you’ll need to have these loaded on your cell phone when you get to the stadium.

HOUSING/TRAVEL:

With help from Denise of the Pride’s Crown SG, a block of rooms has been reserved at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando Downtown (191 East Pine Street, Orlando, FL 32801), which is less than 1 mile to the stadium. This hotel has free breakfast, free cocktail reception, & free wifi for starters. Details for getting in on this deal are here: http://rosecityriveters.org/orlando-travelaccommodations/

We have also setup a Facebook page especially for travel discussion/arrangements. Please go to this link to find folks to share rooms, cars, etc. with. https://www.facebook.com/events/890519707765465

SATURDAY A.M. PICKUP SOCCER:

If you are interested in lacing up your boots side by side with other SG’s & getting a little footy in, you’ve come to the right place. With help from Mike of the Pride’s Crown SG we’ll have pickup soccer on Saturday morning close to Embassy Suites. If you were with us last year, the pickup soccer was great fun. The sprinklers went on so we all got a little wet but since it was hot, no problem! We had folks repping the Riveters, Bayou City Republic, & the Spirit Squadron among others. Meet on Saturday at 9:30am at 480 N Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32801.

For those that know – It’s almost BYCAP time!!

For those that have joined the Rose City Riveters fanbase this season, let me explain what BYCAP is, and why you should help us out.

At the end of the year, folks get this wild idea that, out of admiration and/or gratitude, they should buy the capos a pint. This is a really, REALLY great idea but, honestly, there’s no way they can drink that much and remain functional through the game.

Thus, we have our annual season ending BYCAP fundraiser.   (This year it is going to be on September 30th when the Portland Thorns take on the Chicago Red Stars)

BYCAP is Buy Your Capo A Pint, and it is a chance for Thorns fans to say, “Thank you” to the volunteer crew that keeps the NWSL’s most passionate, loud, and proud supporters working together to support our beloved athletes.

Yes, we are asking one more thing of you on the last match of the season; Consider whatever funds you would spend on getting a complimentary beverage or two for a hard-working capo, drummer, horn player…  Instead of buying beverage/s and getting us smashed, put that money into our collection buckets and we will turn it into tuition for young girls to attend Portland’s own Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls.

“Creative voices of girls and women need to be amplified to create social change. Girls need positive role models and support for their creative endeavors. We can build a community where girls support each other rather than tear each other down. We can empower girls to recognize, understand and respond to discrimination. ‘Girls Rock’ is more than just a slogan.”

Head to Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls for more information on the AMAZING work they do, what they offer, what other donations they need and how to get tickets to The AMP Awards gala event in November.

Please help us, your capos, drums, and horns, give back to our community through BYCAP 2017 (and save our livers) on September 30th!

WAIT!!! Are you sad because:

  • Don’t carry cash?
  • Want to spread twice the love?
  • Going to be out of town?
  • Are a long-distance fan?

You can donate in advance by clicking here!

Thanks, love and passion – yours truly the RCR Capos DnT.

PS – Share the hell out of this please.  😊 <3

It’s that time of the year! While excitedly anticipating the playoffs, we still take a moment to reflect upon the season thus so far, and how each player has contributed to Portland Thorns FC’s overall success.

To that end, it’s time to poll all of you. Who is your “Player of the Year”?

The poll will close soon, so don’t delay.

The player with the most votes will be honored Saturday, September 30th. See you there!
